The economy has crashed (again), the Nanny State is out of control, and software engineer Gimbel O’Hare just wants to do his job. Not easy, given that his boss is out to get him, the Department of Justice has him under surveillance, and one of his co-workers is suing him for sexual harassment. Overstressed, he finds refuge in the movies of Jon Dunn, Secret Agent Beta-11. He soon becomes convinced that he is Jon Dunn, and sets off on an off-the-wall journey around metro-Washington, from the ruins of a once fashionable mall, to a psychiatric ward in a military hospital, to the office of the Attorney General of the United States. With the help of redheaded amazon Cheri Tarte (“the perfect combination of sweet and tangy”), Gimbel is on the trail of a dangerous – and possibly imaginary – conspiracy to steal a presidential election and fundamentally transform America.

About the author

MICHAEL ISENBERG has had a checkered career as a Six Sigma Black Belt, weapons merchant, astrophysicist, and manufacturer of cigarette butts. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, he began to research the Muslim world and found both its achievements and its self-inflicted collapse during the Middle Ages so fascinating, he had to tell the story.

Oh, wait a minute. The name is Dunn. John Dunn. Not Bond-James Bond. His operative ID and the name of Her Majesty's Secret Service are altered, as well. And Gimbel's not the only guy suffering this fantasy/reality swap. But that's just one element in Isenberg's delightfully absurd satire.
O'Hare works for Byte Yourself, a software company which has jumped from an entrepreneurial start-up into an empire--much to the chagrin of competitors and bureaucrats. Those competitors and bureaucrats have joined forces to bring down Byte Yourself, and Gimbel O'Hare is caught in the middle of it.
Full Asylum weaves together British superspy mania, professional wrestling, paintball and a charming cast of characters in a tale of office politics gone viral. Or should I say, gone pandemic?
Here's a notable line of dialog from a book which takes pains to be upbeat, or at least humorous, most of the time:
"...It isn't easy when everyone responsible for enforcing the law works for the criminal."
In the spirit of Ian Fleming, Isenberg has some nifty names for some of his characters as well: Cherri Tarte, Dora Jarr, Lacey Briefs...
If you're in the mood for some social satire with a lighthearted touch and a positive attitude, give this one a read.

Michael Isenberg is a hugely entertaining writer. He successfully weaves his political philosophy into the story, reminiscent of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, though not as long-winded, and much, much funnier.
Parental guidance advised: there are some pretty racy scenes in here.
Isenberg's literary style is highly visual. I could see everything clearly as it happened. On countless occasions, I wished someone would make this book into a movie. It has everything! Stunning women, including an over-the-top awesome female co-star; fast cars; technology; chases galore; comic foils; and action and romance. Isenberg writes with imagination and intelligence. He champions excellence in this highly entertaining tale, a treat for anyone who smiled at the end of The Incredibles or The Fountainhead. And Isenberg also did his due diligence; Full Asylum is impeccably researched and edited. Can't recommend it highly enough! Read it before it's cool - this book will be huge.
The wordplay and pacing are just right, and the ideological sledgehammer blows are tempered by just enough padding to make them, like the professional wrestler characters, deliver full impact and entertainment, painlessly.
I eagerly await Mr. Isenberg's next novel.
Update: Still a funny, fast, furious read about the collapse of society and unlikely heroes and heroines. Michael is a gifted storyteller and this is a delightful gift for the holidays. Or any days.
